Citizens Advice fears bailiff proposals

March 5, 2007: A change in the UK law could make it legal for bailiffs to break into homes and seize property to pay off credit card debts, a charity warned today.

Citizens Advice Bureaux said that vulnerable people could be at risk if measures going before the House of Commons today become law.

The tribunals, courts and enforcement bill, due for a second reading in the Commons today, includes measures that would give extra powers to all bailiffs, including the right to force entry to premises to enforce unpaid debts, including credit card arrears. Currently, only certain bailiffs have this power, notably those enforcing magistrates' court fines.

The banks are panicking because they have not used proper restraint in lending money. Now they wish to use hired thugs to get some of it back and hope they will be given 'legal' rights to bully and harass people. Disgraceful. It is known that bailiffs are normally regarded by everyone outside the morally bankrupt UK legal system as criminals and thugs. Many advice agencies will have wall posters and offer leaflets to that effect. That is in no way to condone excessive borrowing or lending, quite the opposite.

IMO: If legislation giving these extra powers is passed, never, ever, vote for any MP of any party supporting it as you would be voting for a corrupt fool. In fact, beating the bastard MP as hard and as often as you can (if possible till he is dead) is not a bad idea though I am sure there is "some law" to prevent me from recommending it. Because it is what he will be inflicting on the innocent, the poor, nonwhites, the sick, women and children, and the elderly.
