BBC gagged over cash for honours inquiry

The BBC was banned last night from broadcasting fresh allegations in the cash for honours investigation.

Lord Goldsmith, the attorney general, obtained an injunction to stop the BBC proceeding with a news story for the 10 O'Clock News. The BBC could only say last night that it had been prevented from broadcasting a story which it believed was a "legitimate matter of public interest" about an hour before the bulletin went on air.

Lord Goldsmith was acting independently of the government in seeking the injunction, a spokesman said.

Sir Menzies Campbell, the Liberal Democrat leader and a barrister, said the implication of last night's injunction was that Lord Goldsmith thought it possible there may be a prosecution in the cash for honours affair.

Sir Menzies' chief of staff Edward Davey MP said: "The fact that the BBC felt that it was in the public interest suggests that we may be looking at yet another example of Government cover-up."

IMO: If the plods do anything, they will probably just prosecute one or more of B.Liar's shills or noddys, but let's hope B.Liar is prosecuted. I've given a few reasons why earlier.

March 2007, 03:03: An internal Downing Street e-mail between two members of Tony Blair's inner circle is apparently concerned with the injunction. But the BBC say the matter has recently expanded into an investigation into allegations of attempts to pervert the course of justice. Lets hope something is done about these justice perverts.
